Finals week can be one of the most stressful times of the semester. To help students recharge and refocus, Founders Memorial Library held their semesterly “Stress Less” series December 1 –10. These events were designed to promote well-being and create a supportive environment for academic success.
Throughout the week, the library’s main entrance transformed into a hub for creativity and relaxation. Students enjoyed hands-on activities like building with LEGO bricks, shaping kinetic sand, coloring pages from our Nickels and Dimes collections, and contributing to a community puzzle and gratitude wall.
One of the most popular activities was the visits by therapy dogs on December 3 and 4. On Wednesday Pixel, a smart lab who loves performing tricks, visited the library. She posed with students, giving them adorable hugs for photo-ops. We also had a visit from a sweet golden retriever named Ella. Ella loved sitting on laps and leaning against the students for physical contact and support. On Thursday Pixel came back for another visit and we had two additional golden retrievers to snuggle with.
On December 5, students created their own beaded potted plants. These miniature “plant buddies” were not only fun to make but also served as cheerful companions during finals. Later in the week, the library offered retro video gaming. Students collaborated on games such as Super Mario World between study sessions.
These events reflect the library’s commitment to supporting student success beyond academics. By creating spaces and experiences that prioritize mental health and well-being, Founders Memorial Library helps students thrive during one of the most challenging times of the year.
And the support doesn’t end with finals. Founders offers two dedicated relaxation spaces year-round: the Huskie Relaxation Station (Room 493), a peaceful spot for yoga and meditation, and the Reflection Room (Room 302), a quiet environment for personal reflection or prayer.
Thank you to everyone who participated in Stress Less!
