Kanopy Streaming Access is Changing

In December 2017, the University Libraries initiated a pilot subscription to Kanopy, a streaming video platform that hosts high-quality films and documentaries. Up until now, access to films on Kanopy has been unmediated and driven strictly by patron request. Happily, Kanopy has been popular and received heavy use, but we have reached our annual budget for this resource sooner than expected which requires us to limit access to Kanopy for the winter break and the spring semester.

This doesn’t mean that Kanopy is going away. You will still be able to freely stream any of the 350+ films which we have already licensed. As yet unlicensed films may be requested through a link to a form with priority given to films requested by faculty members for their courses. Students who request films needed for class will be directed to ask their instructors to make the request on their behalf. Newly requested videos are typically available within 24-48 hours.

Please note: Even though newly requested films are available quickly it is still important for instructors to verify availability of films at least one week in advance of the date that they are needed for class. If they encounter a request form, they should submit it so that we have time to purchase the license.
