Have you ever wondered how researchers, students and lifelong learners find exactly what they need in a huge sea of information? The answer is metadata – the hidden framework that makes knowledge easy to find and use.
Northern Illinois University Libraries will be welcoming a new Metadata Librarian, a role that is key to connecting people with ideas. Metadata is more than just “data about data” – it is the key that helps users discover our collections. From the old card catalog to today’s modern online systems, metadata makes sure every book, article and digital resource can be found and used.
Our new Metadata Librarian will create records for many types of materials, helping scholars around the world access NIU’s rich physical and digital collections. This role also includes leading a skilled team and overseeing the detailed work that ensures NIU Libraries’ metadata remains accurate and reliable, with full integration planned for Spring 2026.
