Women in STEM Film Screening: Picture a Scientist

Documentary filmmakers Sharon Shattuck and Ian Cheney noticed that it was hard to find science documentaries that featured women and people of color, so they set out to make their own. “Picture a Scientist” examines women scientists’ experiences in their fields, including harassment, institutional discrimination, and subtler slights. NIU Libraries will feature a screening of the film on February 1 from 12 p.m. to 1:15 p.m. in the Staff Lounge on the Lower Level of the Founders Memorial Library.

The video was chosen as part of the Women in STEM lecture series. The first event in this series was the November lecture by Paulette Hasier, Head of the Geography and Maps Division at the Library of Congress and NIU alumna, and she described how she is using digital technology to update the collection’s practices.

This is a free event open to all. The video is 56 minutes in length.
