The Sones de México Ensemble will return to Northern Illinois University, this time joining Banda NIU and Mariachi NIU on stage for a concert that will feature a musical collaboration including different styles of Mexican traditional music, including regional styles of orchestral wind music.
Sones de México’s first appearance at NIU was at Founders Memorial Library in 2021 when Associate Dean Gwen Gregory invited them to perform in the Founders Gallery. This performance will follow days after a public lecture by Ethnomusicologist and Sones de México Ensemble co-founder Juan Dies, which will take place November 17 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. in the Founders Gallery on the first floor of the library.
The concert is Co-sponsored by Friends of the NIU Libraries, Undocumented Student Support, the Center for Latino and Latin American Studies, and the Latino Resource Center. This program is sponsored in part by a grant from the Illinois Arts Council Agency.
