NIU library workers present workshop on library policy evaluation through a DEI lens at a state conference

On October 20, 2022, Kimberly Shotick, Michele Hunt, Sata Prescott, Alissa Droog, and Sarah McHone-Chase presented a workshop: Policy Evaluation Workshop: Reviewing Library Policies through a DEI Lens at the Illinois Library Association Conference in Rosemont, Illinois.

Libraries are situated in structures underpinned by white supremacy. We must actively engage in foundational, functional change to foster racial and social equity. Joined by over 50 attendees, the group summarized how they had come to work on a large policy evaluation project looking at library policies through the lens of diversity, equity and inclusion. Participants then gained hands-on experience using a structured rubric for evaluating sample library policies.
